The danger of wildfires

Last Tuesday, around 11.30pm, a fire was alerted in the area of Gambelas - Faro, where the famous Faro Motorbike Festival was due to take place. On Wednesday, the flames reached the municipality of Loulé. Amongst the most affected areas was Quinta do Lago, where the fire damaged some properties. In Quarteira, it was the north-west area that proved most critical - and a petrol station was even at risk. Around 227 operatives were on the ground, with the support of 83 vehicles and 4 aerial means, fighting the flames that were made difficult by the strong wind. The area is currently free of danger of reignition.
