EDP x VHILS creates underwater exhibition in Albufeira

EDP ART REEF calls for the decarbonization of the planet and highlights the importance of reusing materials to create sustainable ecosystems.

This project involves the creation of an artificial reef with 13 pieces sculpted by the artist VHILS, whose materials (iron and concrete) come from the dismantling of former EDP thermoelectric power plants. The five concrete and mortar sculptures and eight iron sculptures, will undergo a decontamination process before being submerged. EDP will be in charge of populating the site with various marine organisms and consequent monitoring of this new ecosystem.

These structures, which unite art and biology, will be installed offshore the Santa Eulália beach in Albufeira. The initiative, as well as showing the importance of rethinking the relationship between man and the environment, will also enrich the recreational diving sector in the Algarve. We hope to be able to visit as early as the summer of 2023!

At BED AND SUN, we have a wide offer of accommodation just 20 minutes away from the beach of Santa Eulália. On your next holiday in the Algarve we challenge you to visit the EDP ART REEF!
