World Tourism Day 2023

On September 27th, World Tourism Day is celebrated, and this year, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has chosen the theme "Tourism and Green Investments."

The UNWTO emphasizes the importance of directing tourism investments towards a more sustainable direction, believing it to be a priority for the future growth and development of tourism.

There is a need to generate investments in projects that aim to benefit both People (by investing in education and skills) and the Planet (by investing in sustainable infrastructure and methods that facilitate "green transformation"), while also generating Prosperity (through innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship).

This World Tourism Day will serve as a call to action for the International Community, Governments, Financial Institutions, and Private Investors to come together around a new investment strategy in tourism.

In Portugal, the Portuguese Tourism Confederation decided to mark the day with a Conference, taking place in Albufeira, with the theme "Tourism factor of National Cohesion". It will feature tourism stakeholders in Portugal who come together to discuss key themes of tourism in our country, namely post-pandemic challenges, digitalization and sustainability, the new airport and financing for the activity.
